Mardi Gras or Fat-tuesday

The 16th of February is in Sweden the day of Mardi gras. This tradition always falls on a Tuesday and is therefore with direct translation also called “Fat-Tuesday”. This day has been celebrated a long time and nowadays it’s tradition to eat a pastry called “Semla”. As you can see in the pictures it’s a big wheat bun with whipped cream. Inside there’s marzipan and on top there’s a lot of icing sugar. The tradition is from the time when Catholics ate a lot, and very fat food right before the fast would start. We still do it and it’s kind of a big thing here, everybody eat at least one “Semla” this day, It’s a bit insane but also very good!

This is Ida with one big "Semla".
